Life in a château

Sarthe is rich in residences filled with history. Why not take a look inside these châteaux, guided by your hosts who have sometimes lived for generations in these wonderful places? They will gladly share all their charms with you.

Get to know the Count and Countess of Vanssay...

Château de La Barre offers a high-quality break, just outside Perche, which can be supplemented by a range of services: VIP chauffeur, Ferrari ride around the Bugatti circuit...

"It's not about luxury, but elegance and refinement", Count Vanssay likes to say when you visit his mansion, which has been remodelled several times since the late 14th century. With Rubelli fabrics, toile de Jouy and antique furniture that's often signed, the five rooms and suites offer beauty and impeccable service. With embroidered napkins and valuable porcelain in the vast dining room, guests can relish the experience of a "Grand siècle" evening of aristocratic simplicity.

A fairy tale château

They say that Château de Saint-Paterne was once home to the secret lovers of Henri IV... Charles-Henry and Ségolène de Valbray warmly welcome you into their family château, renovated into a luxury hotel with 10 rooms and a park with heated outdoor pool. Your hosts have perfected the art of hospitality and invite you to enjoy dinner prepared by Chef Christophe Renou. To enjoy it to the full and for younger gourmets, a children's meal with a special menu is available before dinner.

Château du Lude, which has belonged to the same family for 250 years, is one of the architectural jewels of the first French Renaissance. The richness and diversity of styles that characterise Château du Lude dazzle us as much as the glitzy annual events held there: the "Gardeners' Weekend" in June and the "vegetable and gourmet days" during the weekends of 14 July and 15 August are opportunities to experience the art of gardening and marvel at some culinary secrets in the château's beautiful kitchen, in use since the 15th century!
