SARTHE by bicycle

Between Normandy and the Loire Valley, at the gateway to the Paris Basin, Sarthe is the link between the major cycle tourism routes of Véloscénie (from Paris to Mont-Saint-Michel) and La Loire à Vélo, which runs its course in the Pays de la Loire and Centre regions.

SARTHE à vélo (SARTHE by bicycle) offers 2 national routes

- SARTHE à vélo (V44), the connection between Véloscénie and Loire à Vélo, which lets you discover the north-south axis of the department with the following sections: Alençon-Beaumont/Sarthe - Le Mans-Noyen/Sarthe - La Flèche-Saumur.

- Vallée du Loir à vélo (V47), which follows the Loir Valley and its greenway, to the south of the department from La Flèche towards Montoire-sur-le-Loir in Loir-et-Cher.

A Loir Valley route "V47a" which offers the option to complete 2 additional loops, parallel to the route.

Two regional routes, variants of the SARTHE à vélo V44, complete what's on offer with the option to ride north on the Saosnois greenway and discover to the south the Bercé Regional Forest.

"Accueil Vélo", a label made for you!

"Accueil Vélo" (Cyclists Welcome) is a national brand, set up under the aegis of the France Vélo Tourisme (Cycling Tourism) association to ensure a welcome and quality of services for cyclists along the cycle routes. In Sarthe, more than thirty tourist service providers, located near the cycle routes, have adapted their welcome to those who like cycling (accommodation, places of interest and tourist offices).

With this label, service providers commit to:

  • be less than 5 km from a marked cycle route,
  • offer the right facilities: secure bike shelter, repair kit...
  • provide a dedicated reception with helpful information and advice (circuits, weather...)
  • have or direct you towards services tailored for cyclists: luggage transfer, clothes washing and drying, rental of bicycles and accessories, bicycle washing...
